Regulations and policies
In addition to »ÆÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ's regulations, policies, and procedures relating to research degrees (see below), PGRs - as independent researchers - are subject to the same research policies as academic faculty. You should familiarise yourself with the documentation set out below.

- 2025/26 Procedures on Research Degrees (PoRD; includes in the Appendices the Framework for Collaborative Research Degrees; the Procedure on Remote Vivas; the Framework for PhDs by Published Works, and the Statement on the Use of Generative AI by PGRs). Previous versions of the PoRD are viewable via the drop-down section below.

- Open access policies
University-level regulations, policies and procedures relating to research degrees are approved by Senate. Content is developed by the PGR Sub-Committee (which includes PGR representation) in consulation with Faculties/Schools and other stakeholder groups. Changes to any documentation normally takes effect from the start of the academic year, unless otherwise communicated via Faculties/Schools.
